“Eat honey, my son, for it is good; honey from the comb is sweet to your taste.”
In Solomon’s day honey was a delicious treat. Still is today for most of us. However beyond that it was seen to have healing properties and for that reason was a regular part of a child’s diet. We also see it as a wonderful gift used as the description of the promised land when it was described as a land flowing with milk and honey. The writer is about to tell us in the next verse that God’s wisdom should be seen and enjoyed by our spirit the way honey is by our body. A delicious, healthy gift we are to desire and enjoy. Too often God’s word is seen as an inconvenience or a duty to study rather than a wonderful, life giving gift to enjoy. Like medicine alone we tend to mainly reach for it in times of challenge or trouble. However in Solomon’s day he encourages grabbing it like a powerful and tasty treat you can never get enough of. Today savor the taste of God’s truth. #BeTheEdge
