Proverbs 23:5 NIV

“Cast but a glance at riches, and they are gone, for they will surely sprout wings and fly off to the sky like an eagle.”

In today’s dollars, $258.5 billion ($14 billion in 1929 dollars) was lost in a single day in 1929. That day became known as Black Tuesday, the day of the market crash. Many people, including some relatives, lost everything they had. They went to bed on Monday feeling safe and set for life, only to wake up to a life-shattering event that they might have previously only imagined in their nightmares. Those who took their own lives that day had placed their entire trust in money. While the number of suicides and people jumping from windows was not nearly as high as we have been led to believe, there was still a significant spike. Some people I know, who handle their wealth biblically, came from humble beginnings and therefore understand that life without wealth is bearable and can even be sweet. Others gained their wealth, lost it, and then regained it. They also know that life can function meaningfully, whether they have wealth or not. Those who trust God and, like Paul, know how to live in all circumstances, see money for what it is—something to help advance God’s kingdom. It is all His, and as long as we understand what He wants us to do with it, He is free to control that area, as well as all areas of our lives. Today, recognize the source of every dollar you have, and let Him decide its purpose. #BeTheEdge

““But who am I, and who are my people, that we should be able to give as generously as this? Everything comes from you, and we have given you only what comes from your hand.” 1 Chronicles‬ ‭29‬:‭14‬ ‭NIV‬‬
