Proverbs 24:30 NIV

“I went past the field of a sluggard, past the vineyard of someone who has no sense;”

Have you ever met someone who has no sense? Have you ever been involved in their life enough to see what a disaster a life lived by someone with no sense is. There are certainly exceptions but a senseless way of living usually brings about disorder at best and disaster at worst. Solomon lets us know that the habitat and surroundings of this person is basically an overgrown wasteland. Leaving our soul care to senseless and haphazard practices is destructive as well. I’m am often amazed at the habits and disciplined lives of the most successful leaders I know in both the secular and spiritual arenas. The ones who are without a doubt carrying the greatest level of responsibility make sure they have time carved out to focus on their walk with God. Their habits of being in prayer and scripture as well as other resources for growth and understanding in their faith always challenge and encourage me. These disciplines show up in their business as well. Gordon McDonald formerly of Grace Church once told the story of talking with a wise old nun at a particularly demanding time leading his people. He was complaining a bit about how everyone seemed to want something from him. His description was that everyone who came by grab the handled on his pump and he was pumped dry. Looking for sympathy he instead got this counsel. Get your well down deeper. Today make sure your time with God is disciplined and enough. #BeTheEdge
