Proverbs 1:33 NIV

“but whoever listens to me will live in safety and be at ease, without fear of harm.”

What a great promise wisdom makes to end this chapter. We can do a lot of things to protect ourselves from dangers. Everything from smoke alarms and security systems to guns and security patrols can enhance a persons safety. Ultimately these may give us some sense of being safer but it is the fear of harm that drives the industries that provide these tools. The sense of fear or even dread is never fully gone by having these things. Only a proper understanding of the power, presence and personal investment in us by God can settle our spirit completely and give us peace. Paul refers to a peace that goes beyond understanding that God gives when we lay our fears before Him. At that point we know that nothing can come into our lives without first passing through the protection grasp of our God. Jesus tells us that we are in His hands as He is in His Father’s hands. Short of being in heaven itself I cannot think of a more secure place to be. As a young believer I read about missionaries in a hostile environment hearing attacking tribesmen not far from them all night long. However, they were never attacked. Not much later one of the natives came to Christ and they asked him about those nights when they stood at a short distance threatening them but never attacking. He responded that they would have but didn’t want to fight their friends surrounded their camp site standing guard. Not only that but their friends were at least 8 feet tall and carried glowing swords. Ultimately they all realized God sent angles to guard them while they served Him in that hostile region. Today trust God with your safety as you serve Him. #BeTheEdge
