Proverbs 24:34 NIV

“and poverty will come on you like a thief and scarcity like an armed man.”‬‬

One of my favorite drives is going down interstate 75 from Gainesville through Ocala Florida. The manicured fields and fences of sprawling horse farms are stunning in their beauty. There is something that speaks to the care and effort of the owners and their staffs that encourages my soul. Our lives tend to be similar. The life of a person of self discipline and attention to detail as opposed to the lazy and unkempt is often obvious. We also tend to find comfort and confidence in those people. Solomon is telling us what that undisciplined and lazy person’s life leads to. Poverty and the lack of things needed for basic survival is the result of the undisciplined, what he calls slothful, life. In Solomon’s day those people ended up beggars and didn’t survive long. Today our society has created “safety nets” for those in our society who find themselves in this situation. The real challenge is that some genuinely need that net while others look to it because they are lazy. Thankfully it is not in my lane to decide which is which. Most likely it is not in yours either. The application of this truth for us is to be reminded that we are to work diligently in our calling and gifting to contribute to the benefit of ourselves and those around us. As with most scripture truth we are to understand this in light of how we apply it to our journey not judging whether others are. Today work heartily in the calling God has placed in your life. #BeTheEdge
