Proverbs 24:4 NIV

“Through knowledge its rooms are filled with rare and beautiful treasures.”

This verse reflects back on the prior one, which speaks about a person’s home, family, as well as their personal life and character. The word that jumps out to me in this particular verse today is rare. There’s a lot of depth in the original Hebrew for that word. “Rare” (often translated as “precious” or “costly”) refers to valuable, exceptional, and uncommon spiritual or personal treasures—such as wisdom, character, joy, and peace—that fill a life or home built on understanding. It contrasts with ordinary or shallow material possessions. (Home and Family Life) I have done a number of weddings in my ministry years. I see a huge contrast in the couples. I almost always require that they meet with me at least three times before the ceremony. It is heartbreaking to see how often a couple enters this lifelong commitment without a desire for the rare treasure God offers. Sometimes they are caught in their familial patterns of either low standards or a genuine belief that they can’t achieve or do not deserve these gifts from God. Many are satisfied with the ordinary and shallow rather than God’s valuable and exceptional gifts. God wants everyone to experience His very best. Today, don’t settle for the ordinary, but pursue His exceptional. #BeTheEdge

“Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows.” James 1:17 NIV
