Proverbs 24:6 NIV

“Surely you need guidance to wage war, and victory is won through many advisers.”

This is one of my favorite verses. Because I know myself, I have always valued the powerful truth behind this passage. I love the exchange of ideas. When in a hard situation that exchange becomes vital. As The Edge ministry has found it is the ultimate “iron sharpening iron” opportunity. Anyone who would go into battle without the understanding that they need multiple viewpoints guiding their strategy is destined for defeat. All of life is dangerously lived when we believe we can do it on our own. Once at a staff meeting we had a discussion about accountability partners and our teams of counselors and advisers in ministry and life. After everyone shared who they leaned on for counsel in their journey one staff shared that she didn’t need anyone. It was just her and the Holy Spirit. Alarm bells went off in my mind and spirit. After the staff pushed back on that in a gentle, loving way she stood firm that she neither needed nor trusted anyones input in her life. I probably should have let her go shortly after that. I didn’t. A pattern of inappropriate relationships with others emerged and she soon crippled the ministry. Business, marriage, parenting, our faith journey, all areas of our lives benefit from others eyes and input. Billy Graham, Rick Warren, Chris Hodges and all other long serving, impactful ministry leaders as well as corporate leaders have strong teams who advise, counsel and bring accountability to their leadership. Today consider who those people are in your story and be sure they are close. #BeTheEdge

“And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another…” Hebrews‬ ‭10:24-25‬a NIV‬‬
