Proverbs 25:13 NIV

“Like a snow-cooled drink at harvest time is a trustworthy messenger to the one who sends him; he refreshes the spirit of his master.”

I was driving to physical therapy the other day when Mike called. He doesn’t call regularly or often. We caught up. It wasn’t all pleasant news but it was good news. Some hard things had happened in both our lives but good things were coming from them. It was an encouraging chat. It refreshed my soul. In Solomon’s day it was not unusual for some people to put in a hard days work during harvest time and as the day came to an end to have a cool drink chilled by snow. They would store snow up on the mountain and bring it down to cool things off when it was hot out. This refreshment represents a person delivering a good and encouraging word to a friend. Part of that involves handling the conversation in a trust worthy way and representing the info truthfully. Conversely, a message poorly communicated was then, as now, not unusual and was a great disappointment. It was disheartening to send vital information only to have it misrepresented. Without cell phones, internet or any other form of quick communication the messenger was a vital part of life back in this time. That is why Solomon essentially tells us that it is as if he brings great refreshment to his masters’ mind as would a drink of snow-cooled water in the burning harvest field. Today handle information you are trusted well. #BeTheEdge
