Proverbs 25:16 NIV

“If you find honey, eat just enough— too much of it, and you will vomit.”

I laughed out loud at one commentary on this verse that said since God created bread and honey we should be grateful that he created more grain than bees. I guess that’s true but it struck me as a funny point. It is true however that in Solomon’s part of the world they were very familiar with swarms of honey bees, they had plenty of honey. That is reflected in the description of their lands in scripture being a land flowing with milk and honey. The point of this verse is simple, too much of a good thing is not good. We receive wonderful gifts from the Lord. I love honey. As a child I would get some every chance I had. As a teenager I was known to take it on the court with me for a tennis match and drink some straight from the bottle for energy. I don’t know if it worked or not but it sure was good. There certainly were occasions where I would have so much I’d get a stomach ache. There is no shortage of good things God gives us. Every one can be used and enjoyed to an extreme and at that point it is no longer the gift He intended. It becomes harmful. Not because of His creation but our lack of self control. Today enjoy God’s wonderful gifts with thanks and discipline. #BeTheEdge
