“Like a north wind that brings unexpected rain is a sly tongue—which provokes a horrified look.”
If you were ever tempted to think you were in charge of your life today or any day this verse can help correct that mistaken perception. A way over used phrase is, “If you want to make God smile tell Him your plans.” In this verse a ‘“sly tongue” is a “covered” or “hidden” tongue and suggests words which are not honest, open or clear’. When those words come unexpectedly they evoke a look of surprise because were are genuinely surprised. A cool rain brought by a north wind in the Middle East is extraordinary and very unexpected. However, it is not always bad. The surprise in this verse is not noted to be good or bad. It could be either. Living life with the understanding that it comes with unexpected challenges and surprises is how God’s children operate. We understand that although we plan and prepare, both biblical concepts, God ultimately holds our future moments in His hands. And that’s a good thing. If I had my way over the past decades I would have missed many things both good and difficult and I would have been the worse for it. Until recently my life verse was Romans 8:28 that basically assured me that whatever surprises came into my life they are all good because God is in control. Living that way is freeing and less scary. Today I don’t live in fear but rather with excited anticipation to see what my heavenly Father is up to. Today expect the unexpected that will all come through His hands first. #BeTheEdge
