“Like a coating of silver dross on earthenware are fervent lips with an evil heart.”
This is the story of those people who say the right thing while all the while trying to do you harm or at the very least trying to damage you to benefit themselves. I’m not good at looking over my shoulder. I am to busy pursuing God’s calling in my life. That has left me open at times to being manipulated and used. Thankfully I have had Godly and good friends watching my back and warning me when I need to be aware. We have probably all dealt with these people at times. Solomon is describing them as being like a worthless piece of clay pottery covered with the impure scrapings floating on top of silver that is being refined. That silver waste covers a foul heart and mouth. It gives a momentary appearance of being something of value that on further examination proves to be trash and worthless. A person gifted in this type of behavior covers selfish and evil intent with a cheap layer of compliments and smooth talking. The description of fervent lips show the intensity and fast talking of this person. Over the years I’ve discovered that the sincere and the truly wise listen closely and speak calmly and thoughtfully. They could not be more different than the evil intended person in Solomon’s description. Today watch for those who would hurt you while listening carefully to the wise. #BeTheEdge
