Proverbs 25:5 NIV

“remove wicked officials from the king’s presence, and his throne will be established through righteousness.”

I’m guessing no one reading this is a king. If you are please forgive my assumption. The rest of us don’t need to worry about applying this truth to our lives right? Wrong. As we know all of Solomon’s writings, all of scripture, has application to all of our lives. This is about where we seek counsel. I have a friend, a really good guy but not a follower of Christ. Yet. We joke about counsel he gave me early in my life and ministry that I did the opposite of. It worked out well. I sought Godly, wise counsel in each case as well. He laughs and loves to tell people how I come to him for advise and do the opposite. He has given me good insight at times. Solomon is very clear that we should remove the council of the unwise and instead need to rely strongly on the council of men and women who belong to God. It’s not about cutting people out of my life but about honing in on godly counsel. In the past I served under boards of directors who were made up of people of influence and resources or position. Although many were good people I discovered that those folks very often lacked godly insight, courage and leadership ability. My fault since I listened to consultants early in my role about who made good board members. My current board is made up of people who love God, have him first in their lives and businesses and as a result are always available with godly counsel. Today, take a close look at the voices who speak into your story and be sure their counsel is from the heart of God. #BeTheEdge
