“Do you see a person wise in their own eyes? There is more hope for a fool than for them.”
Ever heard of the Dunning-Kruger effect? “The Dunning-Kruger effect is a type of cognitive bias in which people believe they are smarter and more capable than they are. Essentially, low-ability people do not possess the skills needed to recognize their own incompetence. The combination of poor self-awareness and low cognitive ability leads them to overestimate their capabilities.” Solomon is essentially telling us this person is actually more dangerous to us than a fool. A fool is dangerous to themselves. The arrogant person is dangerous to the rest of us. Even Charles Darwin recognized the reality of this type person. In his book The Descent of Man he said, “Ignorance more frequently begets confidence than does knowledge.” The point is that arrogant people are usually wrong in their judgment. Humility is the more desirable path for God’s followers. A look at the life of Jesus shows the perfect example of living humbly and yet being powerful and influencing others. He is not just our savior, He is also our role model, the perfect example of living the Spirit Filled life in humility. Today recognize your worth is found in your relationship with Him and walk in that awareness. #BeTheEdge
