Proverbs 26:6 NIV

“Sending a message by the hands of a fool is like cutting off one’s feet or drinking poison.”

Guilty. Yep, I’ve done this. Whether out of misplaced trust, pure laziness or honestly misjudging another’s ability I have caused confusion, pain or ineffectiveness by sending critical information through the wrong messenger. Solomon gets laser focused on those times we place an important message in the hands of a fool. That is where real problems can come from, so real that he compares it to being permanently crippled or killed. That’s a serious blunder. The fool can be a variety of people from the plan simple minded to the intentionally evil minded.  The other day my 3 year old grandson came to me and whispered, “can me and Hallie (4 year old sister) have a piece of candy”. I’m not brilliant but I’ve learned it’s best for me not to make those calls so I told him it was ok with me but his mom would need to say yes. He scurried over to his sister and told her “granddaddy said it was ok”. After a thoughtful pause  he added “and he said something else”. Honest miscommunication there but it is an entertaining example of how we need to hand important messages to trustworthy hands. God sent His truth to us in the second person of the Trinity. Then He entrusts that same message of love, rescue and redemption to us and through us. Be wise and faithful with every message you deliver especially the eternal ones. I had to apologize the other day for a message. It was true but in its truth it was hurtful to someone I care about. Today handle with care everything you communicate, even the ones where you use words. #BeTheEdge
