Proverbs 26:9 NIV

“Like a thornbush in a drunkard’s hand is a proverb in the mouth of a fool.”

Solomon is telling us clearly that Godly wisdom in the hands of someone ill prepared to handle it, yet alone deliver it to others, will hurt themselves and others. He is literally telling us to picture a staggering drunk with a bush full of thorns being swung around at others. The drunk will have a very bloody hand and possibly other parts and everyone who gets near him will be bloodied as well. Sadly we’ve seen this all to often these days. Cults at times are formed around grabbing a simple truth and running off into completely unintended directions with it. This is seen with false teachings like the prosperity gospel. Erwin Luther has written a book about 5 false gospels within the evangelical church. One describes how the God of love is often used to obscure the fact that He is also the God of absolute Truth. It is how some religions justify sinful behavior. The point here is that even Satan quoted scripture out of context to try and tempt even Jesus. Jesus knew the totality of God’s truth so it was completely ineffective with Him. It is amazing how many atheists know the content of scripture and don’t hesitate to misuse it. Today be wary of those who twist God’s truth with their words and their lives. #BeTheEdge
