Proverbs 27:20 NIV

“Death and Destruction are never satisfied, and neither are human eyes.”

Everyone will die one day. Wherever they end up, heaven or hell, will allows have room for them. They never get full. The eyes in this verse are a representation of all the senses. Because of the law of diminishing return they are never satisfied. Some people eat until they are sick, they can never get enough of what they like. We see pleasing things and we want them. The fallen human condition leads us to pursue them with everything we have. Bo matter what or how much we get we want a bigger amount of flashy thing. The fruit of the spirit includes self control. Not my greatest feature. If I have a scoop of ice cream it makes me desire, and at times get, the whole half gallon. Holy Spirit power is the key, the only key, to victory in these areas of our lives. Without Him there may be scattered victories but there is no lasting life change. I once heard a famous pastor say that there is no excuse for an overweight minister of the gospel. I’m not sure that’s entirely true, but I do get the sense of what he means. For those who know him it was interesting that the next speaker after him was Dr. E.V. Hill. He chuckled and talked about the beautiful creation of Fried Chicken. He was not wrong. God is the one who convicts us of our areas in need of disciplining. The key here is to allow God’s conviction to be coupled with the self-control offered by his Holy Spirit. Then we live in such a way that we honor God and impact the world. It is so opposite of the thinking of the carnal man. Today Gods spirit lead you into the moderation that he desires. #BeTheEdge
