Proverbs 29:12 NIV

“If a ruler listens to lies, all his officials become wicked.”

A key takeaway from this verse is that those around us, employees, etc., reflect our leadership. If we are prone to less than the truth our team will most likely reflect that. It is unspoken permission to do the same. Some times it is even spoken permission. Hiring staff to make you look better may work for a brief season but eventually they will reflect the character of their leadership, or leave. It is a rare child who grows under a parent with questionable actions who doesn’t pick up on them. To some extent it is John Maxwell’s Law of the Lid. As parents or leaders we are unable to take another beyond where we are ourselves. When I worked with young people I was often frustrated for the ones who grew up in lukewarm church families. Constantly I would watch great growth in discipleship only to watch the brakes get slammed on at a point. Over time I realized they had adopted the ceiling on the faith modeled at home. Conversely, as a young person from a home with no faith story would come to Christ and start growing and the sky was the limit. They passed the limit with their decision to live for Jesus and the example became Jesus Himself. Today grow and set no limits on those around you. #BeTheEdge

“Join together in following my example, brothers and sisters, and just as you have us as a model, keep your eyes on those who live as we do.” Philippians‬ ‭3‬:‭17‬ ‭NIV‬‬
