Proverbs 30:15 NIV

“The leech has two daughters. ‘Give! Give!’ they cry. “There are three things that are never satisfied, four that never say, ‘Enough!’:”

Solomon is telling the story of someone who is never happy with what they have. They always want something they don’t have and cannot get, at least at the moment. They are so caught up in what they don’t have that they cannot enjoy what they do. It’s a bit of the human condition. They own a boat but need a bigger more powerful one. When they get that one they want a bigger one with more toys and it never ends. Their wants are never satisfied. Part of the problem is that their eyes feast on a never ending supply of wants. The greater issue is that they are seeking to satisfy appetites that cannot be met by things and stuff. The core sins of lust and greed end up making one hate what they do have as they are consumed with what they don’t have. The perfect spouse is on tv or in the movies. Even in the real world they may be on someone else’s arm. It is easy to dwell on someone else and create a fantasy person that in reality is nothing like the real one. This fantasy can get compared to one’s current spouse who cannot possibly compare to the fantasy. It is the reason so many relationships fall apart and get replaced by one that ends up being even worse. As we find our source of satisfaction and contentment in the Lord we come to realize what He has given us can provide a beautiful and fulfilling happiness. Today find your desires met in God and His love and presence. #BeTheEdge
