Proverbs 30:3 NIV

“I have not learned wisdom, nor have I attained to the knowledge of the Holy One.”

I remember how much I knew about God as a new Christian. I was ready to handle any questions the world had about God and who He is. Man did I get a lot wrong. Pretty sure I actually made up some eternal thoughts to fill the huge gaps between what I knew (very little) and what was being asked. In fairness what I came up with seemed to be the only possible answer. Thankfully I had a good friend named Shane who gently helped me understand that I still had a lot to learn and actually provided me with a great study Bible to get started. Over the years I gained a better understanding of what the writer is saying in this verse. The more I learn about God the more I realize how little I truly know about Him. That’s not a bad thing. It shows that we are gaining a greater understanding of the overwhelming bigness of God. People looking for God are looking for honesty in their search. Early in ministry I discovered that sometimes a searcher was as drawn to God by a self awareness that He is much bigger than our understanding. When asked a question that I was unsure of the answer I would say, “I’m not sure. Let’s look for the answer together.” It was powerful as we would dig into scripture, talk with a pastor and access other resources to discover the deeper things about God. Today seek to know God and recognize that it is an exciting life long journey. #BeTheEdge
