Proverbs 30:4 NIV

“Who has gone up to heaven and come down? Whose hands have gathered up the wind? Who has wrapped up the waters in a cloak? Who has established all the ends of the earth? What is his name, and what is the name of his son? Surely you know!”

In reading about the life and ministry of Mother Theresa I was struck to learn that in all her life and ministry she said she only experienced a sense of God’s presence once. Yep, one time in this saintly, servants life did she have any sense of God’s presence. All of her life was lived out of obedience to the God she knew, trusted and clung too but waited a lifetime to experience. Agur understood this. He explains his sadness in this verse. He finds himself during this time at a distance from not only experiencing but also understanding God. On our best day we would have to admit we barely understand God. I would propose that we don’t understand Him at all. Sure there are glimpses. His grace, love, sovereignty and other characteristics show themselves in glimpses but, like Moses on the mountain, more than that would most likely kill us. The answer to the writers questions are clearly the Creator and sustainer of life. However, as he reveals earlier in this chapter, he is very disappointed in his situation and lack of grasping the God he serves. Ever feel that way? I certainly do. God is so thorough. Yeah, that’s the word, thorough. As I fumble to follow obediently He has already designed every piece of the journey and the millions, maybe billions, of other pieces that will be impacted by the ripples of my obedient, or disobedient, thoughts and actions at a very instance. Blows my mind. So like the saintly Mother Theresa I will strive to walk in obedience in whatever amount of light He chooses to shine on my path and to trust. Today as the old hymn says, “Trust and Obey”. #BeTheEdge

“And this is love: that we walk in obedience to his commands. As you have heard from the beginning, his command is that you walk in love.” 2 John 1:6 NIV
