Proverbs 30:7 NIV

“Two things I ask of you, Lord; do not refuse me before I die:”

Now that seems a little presumptuous. At least until verse 8 when we see what he asked for. That’s next months verse. Today we look at the act or requesting God’s direct response to our prayers. First it is helpful to realize that in this prayer Agur asks for two things he knows will help him in his life as he strives to serve and represent God. When Jesus taught His disciples to pray we also see some pretty direct requests. Please bring your Kingdom to us. Do your will God here exactly as it is in your perfect home. Give us what we need to sustain the life you gave us. Forgive the very things that will nail me (Jesus) to a cross to the same extent we forgive those others who hurt us unfairly. Lead us along paths that will not end in temptation to wander from your will but rather deliver us from the dark forces of this world that would take us down. Yeah, a less than literal translation but you get the idea. Except for a piece of bread, not a very selfish list of requests here either. God is ok with selfish prayers. It gets our desires out in the light where He can work on our hearts to deal with them. Ultimately we are shown and challenged to pray for things that will help us better reflect our savior. Today let that be the direction of your requests to the King. #BeTheEdge

“Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.” Philippians‬ ‭4:6‬ ‭NIV‬‬
