Proverbs 29:7

“The righteous care about justice for the poor, but the wicked have no such concern.”

I know this was written about 700 years before Jesus birth and was probably said by Solomon200 years before that but this could have very easily come from the mouth of our Savior Himself. This reflects a very important truth that was dear to Jesus throughout His time on earth and therefore is today as well. The treatment of the poor was paramount throughout His travels and teaching. The concern for the poor and their just treatment has been too often reduced to political language and half hearted political solutions. As followers of Jesus we know political solutions are not how problems of the heart are solved. I agree with those who feel that if Jesus followers (the Church) had been doing it’s job then government would not have to struggle with the problem of the poor. Both Solomon and Jesus didn’t let us off the hook. They consider it paramount that we as God’s followers care for the just treatment and the needs and concerns of the poor. If anything politics has gotten in the way of true care and obfuscated the real issues and solutions of helping the poor. The challenge is greater today because of government intervention. It is time for God’s people to stop passing the buck, ignore what gets in our way and do what we can for “the least of these”. Today do for the one what you’d like to do for the many. #BeTheEdge

“If you want to be perfect, go, sell your possessions and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me.” Jesus
