Proverbs 3:1 NIV

“My son, do not forget my teaching, but keep my commands in your heart,” Proverbs‬ ‭3:1‬ ‭NIV‬‬

Matthew Henry refers to this chapter as, “one of the most excellent in all this book”. I concur. Solomon starts out by telling us how to be happy. Who doesn’t want that. I have a friend who has been struggling for years with depression. This is a deep rooted struggle that goes beyond the occasional periods of “being down”. In looking for help they ended up with a therapist who was not familiar with Gods truth. They were counseled to do whatever they thought would make them happy regardless of the impact on others. They listened, left a trail of damaged lives and ended up worse then they started out. We are all still hoping they get better (read Godly) counsel before it’s too late.  Solomon makes it clear in these few verses that God has the answers we are struggling to find. He offers them freely. It is not a light or easy thing to defeat mental health battles but the world offering answers apart from Gods loving Truth is a dangerous and empty road. In a couple verses after this one Solomon encourages us to “trust the the Lord with all your heart.” That’s the beginning of good mental health and finding joy. When we drift into worldly wisdom we ease away from the author and perfecter of our story. The end of your story is still being written. Today find your answers in Him and His counselors. #BeTheEdge
