“Her husband is respected at the city gate, where he takes his seat among the elders of the land.”
The other day I was at lunch with a group of men. One is a long time friend who knew my wife well before she passed away. He was telling the others that I was a pretty good guy but she was even better. I quietly agreed. The story was shared about how after my wife went to be with the Lord my kids came to me and shared that I probably needed to be a bit more outgoing and interactive with people I tended to ignore. I laughed. They stayed serious and let me know that I was respected but people really liked having momma around. They were concerned that with her gone I might be left out of things. People let me be around so that she would be there. I was a little taken aback but I listened. As an introvert by nature I worked on it. Solomon is letting us know in this verse that the husband of the “Proverbs 31 Woman” gains part of his respect from the knowledge the other community leaders have of his wife. She reflected on him. The idea that a woman of that stature, class and gifting would marry and stay with him was a great reflection on his being her choice at a minimum and his character to a large extent. We all know of marriage partnerships where the guy has “out kicked their coverage” so to speak. I saw one of those in my mirror this morning. God calls all of us to live Godly lives that reflect him in the same way this woman did. Ultimately people see and recognize Him by the way His followers live. We have all “out kicked our coverage” by His adoption of us into His family. Today represent Him well by the character of your life. #BeTheEdge
