“When you lie down, you will not be afraid; when you lie down, your sleep will be sweet.”
Penn Medecine reports that 1 in 4 Americans develop insomnia each year. The AMA reports that 25 to 30 million Americans have insomnia at any given time. If you are one of them you know just how miserable and life altering it can be. The current number of people annually suffering from it is over 50 million and increasing every year. Stress, fear, anxiety, physical ailments, mental health problems, and poor sleep habits tend to be the main causes. Even in the days of Solomon fear and anxiety had a way of disrupting a good nights sleep. When we live our lives by God’s wisdom we find that fear has no hold on us. We feel as safe when we sleep as we do in the daytime knowing as we walk with Him He holds us securely in His hands. Scripture makes the point not only here but numerous times that nothing can penetrate the shield of protection God’s followers enjoy. This is the ultimate fear and anxiety buster. The challenge at times is to not allow the seen dangers to overwhelm the unseen protector. That is no doubt a hurdle to overcome. It is only possible as we walk in faith over time and experience His protection and presence in spite of what the world shows us. In the bow of a boat during a violent storm seems like an unlikely place for restful sleep. Jesus modeled that very peace. Today recognize who holds your life and safety in His hands and rest at peace. #BeTheEdge
