Proverbs 31:3 NIV

“Do not spend your strength on women, your vigor on those who ruin kings.” ‬‬

In this verse we are challenged by the truth that our lusts will zap a persons strength. Again, I seriously doubt that many reading this devotional thought are struggling with prostitution or unfaithfulness in marriage. The fact that a significant number of people wrestle with lust makes this a very practical verse. When we allow lust of any kind to consume our thoughts it will have somewhat the same effect that acting on our lusts will. It distracts our focus, for whatever period of time, from the things of God and puts it on things diametrically opposed to God’s heart. It can also leave us with a sense of guilt, since we are guilty, and separation from God, since we are separated at that time. Scripture tells us that when we hold sin in our heart God will not hear our conversations with Him. It is not that He cannot but He chooses not to. This is not to create guilt in us but to allow us what we believe we want. It is then that we also experience the loneliness and pain of the separation from Him to the point that we will do what it takes to get back into connection with God. We need to long for Him more than we do for the sins and lusts that will draw us away. As much as He hates the brokenness He allows it for our greatest good. Wasting your strength on things of temporal and empty value is foolish. Let your desire for God and the things of God draw you back into relationship with Him. Today let go of what threatens to pull you away and pursue God. #BeTheEdge
