Proverbs 31:3 NIV

“Do not spend your strength on women, your vigor on those who ruin kings.” Proverbs 31:3 NIV

 

Lemuel’s mother is onto her son’s challenges, here. Maybe more than just her son, I’m thinking this is a challenge for all mothers’ sons. However, this verse is applicable to all women as well. Maybe sexual sin is one of the biggest stumbling blocks for men, but in most cases, there is a woman involved, as well. Solomon’s mother knew the danger of sexual and romantic obsession. She saw Solomon’s father fall into this trap and the results were devastating – just ask Uriah. After David’s sin with Bathsheba, although he was considered a man after God’s own heart, we watch as he is never used again in the same powerful way. We also see in scripture that Solomon’s many sexual partners “made him callous toward pure and undefiled religion and incapable of real love.” (Walter) Both of these great kings were destroyed and suffered tragically as a result of their passions running wild. We live in a sex saturated culture. I remember the former president of Taylor University once saying that “today’s junior high student faced more sexual temptation on their way to and from school than their grandfathers did going out and looking for it on Saturday nights.” Today, guard your hearts and your eyes and stay powerful and useful for your Heavenly Father. #BeTheEdge
