“Long life is in her right hand; in her left hand are riches and honor.”
Like yesterdays verse here we see more of the good, actually great, benefits of living a life based on the wisdom of God. If I had to choose from this list I’d take the long life. It is important to realize that we do not gain riches and honor or even a long life by pursuing those things. These are promised to God’s followers as a by-product of living out God’s wisdom in our journey. As a matter of fact it is in not pursuing those things that we see God’s wisdom manifest in our thinking and acting. It is fine to be aware of the beautiful blessings and promises God gives His children as we operate out of obedience to Him. Letting the rewards of that kind of life take front and center as our motivation is a sure way to live unwisely. Jay Kessler, past president of Taylor University, once challenged me to be willing to be the first person who put his faith and trust entirely in God alone, living as His wise servant, that He let down. Obviously God’s track record clearly reflected that could never happen, it was completely against His nature. His point was to not look to God’s rewards but to be satisfied that He called me son. Today find power and rest in living in the wisdom of the God who loves you unconditionally. #BeTheEdge
