“The wise inherit honor, but fools get only shame.”
“ Fools exalt shame, prize what others despise.” This is another translation of the second half of this verse. Pretty blunt. It can be hard for a follower of Christ to picture anyone being proud of a shameful act. For many people shame is a different emotion than it used to be. Things that would cause us to experience shame or blush 20 or 30 years ago are often seen as humorous and entertaining today. As a movie reviewer I attend a lot of movies. Many I walk out on. The reason i find myself leaving is the shameful behavior that is too often on the screen. That has always been true, but much more so now than in the past. There are times that as I leave I see young people sitting and watching sex and nudity with no embarrassment or shame. I’m continually disappointed by how often I see a guy and girl watching these scenes together and laughing. These are scenes I could never sit through even with my wife. Thankfully she would not want to stay for them either. I like to take a grandchild with me to review some movies. These last number of years there are less and less, even PG, that are appropriate for me to sit with a grandchild and watch, even my 18 year old granddaughter. So you want to be honored by those closest in your life? Let them see the moral and spiritual stands you won’t compromise. They may snicker behind your back although I doubt it. But, they will respect your standards. Today avoid shameful experiences and live Holy. #BeTheEdge
