“Have no fear of sudden disaster or of the ruin that overtakes the wicked,”
There are a lot of predictions about bad things that will happen in the new year. Everything from financial collapse to horrific natural disasters. They may occur but no one really knows. This verse does not talk about keeping those things from happening. It is about living in God’s peace and security whether they do or not. It is a reminder of His presence at all times. It is a wise person who prepares for potential disaster. It is a wiser person who, after doing what is logical to prepare, puts their ultimate trust in the Lord. This verse tells specifically of disaster that will overtake the wicked. No matter how those with no relationship with God prepare for coming disaster or challenges they cannot do anything to escape its consequences in their life. God promises a sweet peace to His followers when they sleep, which goes beyond understanding. I have a friend who once told me he needs a drink before going to bed to have any chance of overcoming the fear of death that haunts him every night. I cannot imagine the terror of living that way. Thankfully I don’t have to. This persons pride has so far kept them from putting their faith for their safety and their eternity in God’s hand. I pray that the terror they end each day facing will drive them to cry out to the God they are aware of. Today be sure to prepare, within reason, for what may come but find your ultimate peace in God’s presence. #BeTheEdge
