Proverbs 3:35 NIV

“The wise inherit honor, but fools get only shame.”

We live in a world where shame has lost a lot of its meaning. Many people in todays culture do not know what it means to experience legitimate shame. The dictionary defines it as, “a painful feeling of humiliation or distress caused by the consciousness of wrong or foolish behavior.” There is plenty of false shame pointed at others for reasons that are not shameful at all. God’s followers can ‘be shamed’ by a world that chooses to judge them for standing firm on Biblical truth. Sadly Christians can at times put a false shame on others by calling out things as sin that are not. Playing cards, dancing, shooting pool are all things that in years past we’re labeled sin which were not. False shame takes God’s truth and rewrites it in a form He would not recognize. Proper shame, that where someone blushed when called out for their sin, use to help identify the work of the Holy Spirit in a persons life. The opposite of shame can be pride or indifference. That is becoming the response to sin in many places these days. These shameful actions and interactions will never bring honor. Wise teaching can bring wise living and wise living results in honor. Not necessarily from those we live around, though often it can. The real honor for wise living comes from God. Today pursue righteousness and receive God’s honor. #BeTheEdge
