Proverbs 3:7 NIV

“Do not be wise in your own eyes; fear the Lord and shun evil.”

We live in a culture, by we I mean The Edge companies, that can promote a sense of self sufficiency. That can be an important quality in a successful employee and company…to an extent. What it really looks like is a follower of Christ who works diligently at their job but not to the exclusion of their team and their creators involvement and insights. So maybe it’s not really self sufficiency. I always wanted to higher staff who we trained to do their job and then turn them loose to operate in their gifts, talents and equipping. There was nothing worse than an employee who needed constant monitoring. Often my expectations could lead to rewarding individuals who look to themselves for wisdom and insight. Solomon tells us that is not a healthy employee. It is also not a healthy Christ follower. That can lead to self reliance which leads to self conceit which leads to self destruction. That’s a really bad journey. We have talked recently about the concept of fear of the Lord. Here again we see that fear has a purifying effect on our lives. It keeps us from causally entering into sin. As you watch the results of this kind of living you gain insight into God’s wisdom. That’s the goal. His wisdom is perfect and never fails. Today check yourself and make sure you are never too smart to no longer need God’s wise counsel, because you aren’t. #BeTheEdge
