Proverbs 4:10 NIV

“Listen, my son, accept what I say, and the years of your life will be many.”

Now that’s a great promise. Part of what makes it so appealing is that if we accept God”s instruction we will live a much more fulfilling and pleasant life than if we don’t. Although we want to live always ready to leave this life, it certainly is desirable to have a good life as long as we are here. This verse takes on that meaning especially to the New Testament believer but to the Old Testament life it carried a broader meaning of a richer more blessed life or more correctly the many roles (lives) of God’s children.  We greatly simplify this truth by making it only about age. To the Old Testament Hebrew that was not nearly as important as seeing God at work in and through all aspects of their being and existence. Family, work, friendships and lineage being blessed was a stronger desire than length of time on this planet. As we watch death invade many stories way to soon it can be a challenge to doubt the persons acceptance of Gods instruction. As one who sent a young wife to Jesus before me I assure that she was rewarded not disciplined with her early departure. Today live the promise as one that not only “implies the lengthening of life, but also the gift of a life of prosperity and enjoyment.” #BeTheEdge
