Proverbs 4:15 NIV

“Avoid it, do not travel on it; turn from it and go on your way.”

Decades ago a great friend and I use to take our youth groups on spring break together. We took them to Panama City Beach Fl. every year. At one point we decided to go somewhere else. The reason was because at that time thousands of college students converged on that community and lost their minds. He made the statement once that he would rather take the teens to Bourbon st in New Orleans for a week rather than PCB for a day. That greatly surprised me. I asked why and he said, “The sin on Bourbon street would scare them while the sin in Panama City looked fun and would suck them in.” We moved our trip to Destin before the college crowd discovered it. Solomon is advising his readers to flee wickedness. He knew that, like Panama City back in the day, sin looked fun and exciting yet not dangerous. It appeared harmless enough. Stopping along the way, flirting with it and taking a small taste was all that was needed to draw the unsuspecting in. And then it would destroy the heart and soul of the person. For decades I spent more time the week following spring break counseling teens who did things they would regret the rest of their lives than I did the rest of the year combined. Today if you sense sin, run. #BeTheEdge

“Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us,” Hebrews‬ ‭12‬:‭1‬ ‭NIV‬‬
