“My son, pay attention to what I say; turn your ear to my words.”
As with so many verses throughout Proverbs Solomon takes a moment to remind his son and, more importantly, the readers at large to get these truths and not let them go. I have mentioned that in Hebrews we are reminded just how easy it is to let God’s principles slip away. I seldom (read almost never) put another passage of scripture in the midst of one of these devotional thoughts however this truth is so powerful I’ve chosen to do just that. In Hebrews chapter 2 the writer uses the phrase “drift away”. In the original language it literally brought the reader to a picture of a man falling asleep in a boat tied to a dock. As the boat gently rocks the rope comes loose. When the man awakens he discovers he has drifted far from shore and he is lost and hopeless. “We must pay the most careful attention, therefore, to what we have heard, so that we do not drift away. For since the message spoken through angels was binding, and every violation and disobedience received its just punishment,” Hebrews 2:1-2 NIV. This verse should frighten those of us prone to slipping away from spiritual disciplines such as reading the Bible, church attendance, prayer, etc.. Today take inventory of your walk with God and, where necessary reconnect now. #BeTheEdge
