Proverbs 5:12 NIV

“You will say, “How I hated discipline! How my heart spurned correction!”

Even the writer of Hebrews agrees that discipline is not pleasant or fun. However in that context he is showing the benefits that come as a result. In this verse Solomon is telling us about the person who realizes too late that they failed to be trained by it. One theologian refers to this as the final stage of misery, the realization of a good life missed. I have said before that I cannot imagine the depth of sadness one would experience on their death bed realizing their life was wasted. That in ignoring God to serve pleasure they had missed out on not only a better, more meaningful life but, they total missed the purpose they were here to fulfill. As we travel through life we are corrected and disciplined by God as He first prepares and later refines us on our journey as His representative. Paul calls us ambassadors of God’s from His perfect Kingdom to this fallen and broken world. If we ignore the training and lessons of His discipline we miss the opportunity to correctly represent Him and His interests. According to Deuteronomy 2 it was by observing God’s discipline that the Israelites were prepared to go in and take the Holy Land. Today accept and learn from God’s loving discipline as He prepares you for the next step in your journey. #BeTheEdge

“No discipline seems pleasant at the time, but painful. Later on, however, it produces a harvest of righteousness and peace for those who have been trained by it.” Hebrews‬ ‭12‬:‭11‬ ‭NIV‬‬
