Proverbs 5:3 NIV

“For the lips of the adulterous woman drip honey, and her speech is smoother than oil;”

Have you ever wondered what it is about sin that makes it seem almost irresistible at times? Almost. There’s something very satisfying, although very temporary, found in sin. We know that if that weren’t true, we would never sin. Any fulfillment or satisfaction found in sin quickly passes—almost instantly once the sin has been brought to completion or runs its course. As followers of Christ, with the indwelling Holy Spirit, we are being challenged even as we consider sinful behavior or thoughts to let them go. If we move past that into the actual sin, the Spirit is still there, working to draw us back to our Father. Ultimately, the Spirit will bring us to a place of repentance and reconciliation. How beautiful are those times when sin approaches and we resist its evil temptation. Maturity is learning to do that more often and to give in less. Satan knows how to go after our tender spots. As one who has never used alcohol, the evil one is pretty confident I will not be tempted to get drunk. However, gluttony—well, that’s a whole different matter. Put a half-gallon of ice cream in front of me, and I can make it disappear quicker than a magician. I share that example to make myself look better than I am. There are deeper and darker sins that grab hold of me very quickly. With all that being said, God has provided a way out whenever we’re tempted, no matter how sweet the temptation may appear. Today, see the exit that God provides. #BeTheEdge

“No temptation has overtaken you except what is common to mankind. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can endure it.” 1 Corinthians‬ ‭10‬:‭13‬ ‭NIV‬‬
