Proverbs 6:11 NIV

“and poverty will come on you like a thief and scarcity like an armed man.”

In the Hebrew the idea here is that poverty moves swiftly. While one sleeps the thief hits hard and fast. You wake up broke and desperate. Not a pretty picture. This verse is not talking about someone who is unmotivated. It is referring to a person who is lazy and irresponsible, a true slacker. Lots of things can cause us to be unmotivated. After my wife passed away I struggled to regain my passion for my ministry. A wise friend told me to see my doctor. After doing some tests it turned out I was anemic. It was amazing how after a few weeks of treating the anemia my passion for ministry returned. Wisdom looks at our motivation to gain insight into if we are pursuing our calling as well as our health. If we are unmotivated God could very well be making us aware of something going on in our life that we are missing. A relationship that needs more attention, a physical challenge sneaking up on us, a loss we are struggling to get over and many other things could explain our lack of drive. The sluggard may use these as excuses but their brokenness is much deeper. They will soon suffer quick and complete loss as a result of their deep rooted laziness. Today, if you are a sluggard repent and correct your behavior, however if it’s just a question of motivation seek counsel. #BeTheEdge
