“There are six things the Lord hates, seven that are detestable to him:”
This verse precedes a list of very negative behaviors that are destructive and evil—a list that is also seen all too often in business. Yesterday, I was on a flight recently, heading to a training engagement, when the conversation turned to the quality of service and character seen in certain companies. Chick-fil-A always comes up in these conversations. It’s interesting to hear what others think leaves a lasting impression. The list began, including In-N-Out Burgers (a West Coast favorite), Domino’s, Culver’s, Hobby Lobby, Coke Consolidated, ITC, Evergreen, and others. Some surprised me, while others were expected. As often happens when examining anything based on qualities, those with the opposite reputation also come to mind. Out of kindness and respect, I won’t name them, but suffice it to say that Solomon’s list of things God hates often shows up in their business practices. It is a list worth reviewing, not only in our business lives but also in our personal lives. I recently spoke with a donor group that would not give money to an organization until someone from their team had spent a few days with the organization’s leader and their spouse. They believed that how a person treats their spouse speaks volumes about their character. They believe who you really are would come out in your closest relationships. It is ultimately impossible to hide anything off Solomon’s list. Today live with integrity. #BeTheEdge
