Proverbs 6:17 NIV

“haughty eyes, a lying tongue, hands that shed innocent blood,”‬‬

These are a few of the things Solomon tells us God detests. It’s a pretty obvious list. I mean if someone asked me what does God hate these would make the list pretty quickly. Haughty eyes are symbolic of pride. The act of seeing others as less than us is the ultimate disrespect to God’s creation. All three of these have experienced newfound acceptance too often today. Pride is often considered a normal response if you find your life or performance in a better place than another’s. It does us well to remember that if Jesus was here He would not run with the popular crowd, be elected student government president or be picked as the most likely to succeed. Scripture is clear that Gid does not make mistakes so whatever the physical or life circumstances of another the old saying, “there but for the grace of God go I” is true. Lying is no longer considered a fault unless one gets caught. And even murder has acceptable versions these days. The slaughter of infants has not only been normalized in our laws and culture, it is applauded. As culture changes the definitions and descriptions of what is acceptable it does us well to remember both God and His word have never and will never change. Truth will always be truth and a lie is still a lie. Murder is murder and there is a commandment that is not a suggestion dealing with it. Finally, pride, as always, comes before a fall. Today stay true to God’s truth. BeTheEdge
