Proverbs 6:2 NIV

“you have been trapped by what you said, ensnared by the words of your mouth.”

Beck in my 20’s I remember being in a conversation with a couple friends when one of them said something rather insignificant. A few moments later he spoke up and said, “Hey when I just said… well, that’s not true. I don’t know why I said it but I’m sorry about that.” We all looked at him a moment with blank stares. Then we picked up our conversation laughing and kidding around like a group of guys tend to do. Later I asked him what that was about. He told me that he realized that he had developed a habit of speaking about things as though they were truth when he knew that sometimes they weren’t but they bolstered his point. He also said he realized most of the time it was about things that didn’t really matter. He said it had been hurting communication in his marriage and he determined to stop doing it and when he did, no matter how embarrassing or awkward, he was going to correct it in the moment. That challenged me and I decided to do that as well. I saw a great difference in my interactions with my wife right away. From that moment on it began to become a lifestyle and over time it just became who I am. Solomon encourages us to live this way. I think he realized that all of us have the tendency to want to be right. Google has made it more difficult to create “facts”. Believers can still be tempted to make up details about God and how He works in a desire to influence the lost. There is nothing more dangerous. Today speak truth to bless or stay quiet. #BeTheEdge

“Therefore each of you must put off falsehood and speak truthfully to your neighbor, for we are all members of one body.” Ephesians‬ ‭4:25‬ ‭NIV‬‬
