Proverbs 6:35 NIV

“He will not accept any compensation; he will refuse a bribe, however great it is.”

Ever had someone do you wrong and then want to do whatever they could to make it right? That is Solomon’s focus in this verse. We pick up here from the previous verse where the adulterer is answering to the husband of the woman he committed the act with. We are clearly told nothing will calm the desire for revenge the husband is entitled to. Over many years I have been wronged by a number of people. I have also, whether intentionally or not, been guilty of offending and hurting someone else as well. Thankfully it was never an adulterous situation. Knowing the guilt God has forgiven me of always made it imperative for me to practice the same kind of response to those that hurt me. That didn’t make it any less painful or make me not desire retribution. But, as one to whom much has been forgiven much forgiveness is expected. I know men and women who have held grudges their entire lives. In the end they suffered much more for it than the offender. If you live long enough you will certainly have many opportunities to hold a grudge and desire revenge. God models for us how to escape the dungeon of hate and unforgiveness. Today keep short accounts and forgive at every opportunity. #BeTheEdge
