Proverbs 7:10 NIV

“Then out came a woman to meet him, dressed like a prostitute and with crafty intent.”

At a basic level, this Proverb is a story of seduction. At a macro level, the beginning of the Gospels, before the telling of the first Christmas, is the story of a planet blinded by generations of seduction. The period between the end of recorded history in the Old Testament and the start of the New Testament is 400 years. They were quiet years, known as “The 400 Years of Silence,” as far as scripture shares with us. However, a lot actually occurred during this phase. The Jewish nation began to move into alignment with the secular and evil practices of the pagan culture of the time. They were seduced by the trappings of pleasure and profit that surrounded them. Sound familiar? I mean, really, if the world of disobedience didn’t look so appealing, who would be susceptive to it? It’s easy to see at Christmas time how the glitter of the season can draw our attention away from the simplicity and beauty of the incarnation. I suggest that while enjoying all the excitement and flash of the holiday, look for ways to reflect on the fact that behind the glitter is a divine infant in a manger. Today, avoid the seductive nature of our world and reflect on the fact that the holiday spells His name: Christ-mas. #BeTheEdge

“For we brought nothing into the world, and we can take nothing out of it. But if we have food and clothing, we will be content with that.” 1 Timothy 6:7-8 NIV
