“now in the street, now in the squares, at every corner she lurks.”
This is a straightforward description of a woman who catches a young, naive and ignorant man in sin. She is not a prostitution, although the described behavior makes her sound like one. Rather, she is a licentious housewife roaming in open areas looking for vulnerable young men to entice into an adulterous situation. She is described as a wild animal waiting to spring on its unsuspecting prey and devour it. Simply put, she is an illustration of sin. The effort and planning she goes through is showing us that Satan and his demons cleverly entice us with the trappings of sin. A married women roaming around in open spaces looks relatively safe compared to the prostitute on the corner. Even harmless. Satan has plenty of sin that he doesn’t even bother to disguise. But, for those living by a higher standard he is no less devious and clever in his efforts to bring them down, to destroy their witness. Sin always looks fun or pleasurable otherwise very few would ever fall into it. However, it is possible to naively believe we are above or immune to certain sin. At that moment our guard is down and Satan is wise enough to know that is the place to set his trap. Thankfully God has promised to always provide a way out of every temptation. Today be wary of any area where you feel invulnerable and keep your spiritual guard up. #BeTheEdge
