“Now then, my sons, listen to me; pay attention to what I say.”
Solomon starts this passage of scripture talking to one of his sons but ends this verse talking to all the young men who hear or read these words. “His warning is to all strong in passion, weak in will, wanting in experience.” (Bible Hub)That sounds like a lot of us at times doesn’t it. He recognizes the potential we all have to fall under the spell of the “harlot of Rome”. All the temptations of the world that strive to trip up the weak followers of God are represented in this reference. Solomon knows them all too well. That is why he often reminds us of the battle with temptation. He also knows that the battle is only won through being grounded in God’s word and under the influence and control of His Spirit. It is a war that rages everywhere including the space where we find ourselves today. As a parent I have said these things often to my children. I have heard my children say them to my grand children as well. Slightly different words, same concept. God built in us the desire to help our loved ones avoid the pitfalls of the temptations that are all around us. God, the ultimate father, feels the same. The beauty of His heart for us as His children is that He has all we need to succeed in the struggle. His goal is that we not only hear His words but we heed them as well. Today listen and obey. #BeTheEdge
