“Her house is a highway to the grave, leading down to the chambers of death.”
In yesterday’s verse we learned that there is no escaping being burned by sexual sin. Today he goes even farther by telling us it will kill you. Maybe physically but definitely it kills healthy relationships and spiritual growth, at least until it’s dealt with. As we work through Proverbs, Solomon gets stronger and stronger in his warnings and imagery. These are written primarily to his son and the young, still impressionable, men of his kingdom. I think all of us realize there is no age or gender that does not benefit from being confronted by these truths though. This group of verses compares the house of the adulteress to a field of battle with corpses everywhere. It is a pretty gruesome picture but there is no arguing the ugly reality of the destruction brought on by blatant, rampant sin. The lives destroyed are incalculable. Like with a real death many others are often hurt and affected. This is not the only sin that kills the sinner spiritually. Every sin does. Until it is confessed and repented of we live separated from our loving creator God. The believer does not lose their salvation, however they break the ability to interact with God until they deal with the sin. We are told that God will not hear the prayers of those who hang onto their iniquity and sin in their heart. He chooses not to. It’s not because He no longer loves us. It’s precisely because He does. He knows that eventually we will realize that the loss of intimacy with Him is worse than any perverse pleasure of the sin and we will turn from it back to Him. Today repent and be reconciled with your Heavenly Father. #BeTheEdge
