“I saw among the simple, I noticed among the young men, a youth who had no sense.”
You may know this person. Endicott (theologian) describes him as “not yet vicious, only empty headed”. I’m not sure why that makes me want to chuckle but really how many young men and women have you known who could be described as empty headed. With decades of working with teenagers and college age students in my past I can truly say I worked with dozens. They are the ones who were doing mostly harmless, though not always, things that I found myself explaining to a parent or authority later. It was the classic “Hey Bubba, watch this,” moments. Non-thinking actions. These people, as Endicott implies, grow into either solid citizens and followers of Christ to the best of their ability or they become a danger to the planet. They are not necessarily unintelligent, just naive. They don’t stay that way and it is incumbent on us as parents, employers and leaders to recognize the need for a bit more focused attention and direction. Not everyone we encounter is like this but everyone we encounter does need us to reflect the person of Jesus in our story to theirs. We do not have the luxury of picking and choosing. That being said reflecting Jesus to everyone should never be an issue. We need to recognize every life we encounter needs to see for the first time or have reinforced for the 100th time how a follower of God lives and loves. Today be that influencer on a searching planet. #BeTheEdge
