“My mouth speaks what is true, for my lips detest wickedness.” Proverbs 8:7 NIV
The Bible is deep. There is no doubt about it. The disagreements we have with others about the Bible seem to be about its truth. I’m one who believes every word is inspired by God. I don’t think we have the freedom to dismiss any part of it. The main reason I see people try to do that is because it contradicts their desire on how they want to conduct their lives. Not only is it true and although it is deep, but there is also, as Spurgeon liked to say, a straightforward character to God’s wisdom. You see, no matter how deep it is it is not difficult to parse the truth out of, “Thou shalt not kill.” Or “Love one another.” As Mark Twain reportedly said, “It’s not the parts of the Bible I can’t understand that bother me; it’s the parts that I do understand.” The original language of Proverbs better translates this verse as, “My lips speak simple truth.” God gave us His Word not to hide His story and truth from us but to reveal it. Our responsibility is to read it, study it and apply it to our daily journey. Today, read God’s revealed truth and live it out. #BeTheEdge
