“Stolen water is sweet; food eaten in secret is delicious!”
This is some of the counsel given by folly (Satan) to the simple minded person pursuing the pleasures of sin. There is a temptation to be glad that I’m not one of those people. Or am I? I’m afraid that too often I am the simple minded who is fooled by the seductive lure of sin. I’m not necessarily stealing anyone’s water but the idea of sitting alone and gorging myself on mint chocolate chip ice cream is not far from the occasional truth. This passage is a reflection of what we see in Genesis when Satan convinces Adam and Eve that there is something better that God is withholding from them, that His commands are restrictive and we should throw off the restraint and enjoy the good things He is withholding from us. Read that again. How foolish right? However we live at times as though that is true. By the way, Wisdom offered meat and wine while folly offers bread and water. Even if what is offered is truly available folly is a cheap alternative to the abundance and quality of what Wisdom gives. Satan is a liar and what he offers is also cheap and a lie. Today pursue God’s best. #BeTheEdge
