“But little do they know that the dead are there, that her guests are deep in the realm of the dead.”
This verse and more specifically this section of chapter 9 is written with the intention of persuading the young to avoid sexual sin. It assumes they will take this counsel to heart and realize death awaits them. Sadly the young, which we all either are or once were, believe they are the one exception to all universal truths they don’t want to abide by. The arrogance of youth is well known. Most of the time the consequences of that arrogance are survivable lessons. However, in this instance Solomon makes it clear that sexual sin brings death. Death of a relationship, marriage, family or any other intimate trust connection we would have with another person or group is waiting. We may sincerely believe we can escape the result of this sin but depth of sincerity is not reality. We are just sincerely wrong. Owning this truth can protect us from ruining so many lives. It is a matter of having a level of maturity beyond the glandular. That is what we were created for. Honoring God with our decisions to live above the level of sinful desires. Today live for God and truly live. #BeTheEdge
